Bubbly

Lately, I've been appreciating the little things in life. My friend and I Jessica went to this coffee shop, Fourthcoast Cafe, in downtown Kalamazoo the other night then we went to Steak and Shake and afterwards drove around for two hours just listening to good music, singing, and dancing. It was hilarious. The fact that we did this sober struck me as obscure, a collaboration of exhaustion, late-night irks, and a goofy friendship. I'm feeling rather Bubbly thanks to Colbie Caillat. =]

Oh, did I tell you that the time prior to this one, the last time we had gone to Fourthcoast, she and I had gotten hit on by lesbians. haha. We told them we were straight, well, Jess is bi, so I told them I was straight but we gave them our numbers anyways so we ended up hanging out with them in downtown Kalamazoo yesterday. They're really cool people.

Afterwards we went to Main St. Pub and got dinner, Jess and I, and then we went and saw Year One. Most people didn't like it but I thought it was funny. I'm into that whole dry humor shit though so it made sense that I would have liked it.

Other than that I've just been enjoying my summer. Working alot at the movie theater. I had an interview for the Buckle last Friday, so hopefully I'll be picking up a second job there soon. I'm really tan because my pool got fixed and now I lay out basically everyday. =]

My sister just got back from Iraq last Saturday and she got married on Sunday. It was insane. I can't believe my mother pulled off a wedding in three weeks! My sister, Kasie, literally got off the plane and went dress shopping. Found a dress and it didn't need any alterations! The wedding was absolutely gorgeous, with a beach theme. The cake was cinnamon and was shaped like a sandcastle. She was such a carefree, relaxed, and happy bride. She and her husband Isaac are on their honeymoon in Martha's Vineyard right now. Apparently it is the most romantic place in Michigan. They'll be back tonight actually.

I was hoping to go to a lot of concerts this summer but I don't have the money for them so I've been doing free things like going to the beach, getting books from the library, window-shopping, going for walks, swimming in my pool, chilling at coffee shops, disc golfing, etc. Other than the wedding, not much has happened this summer that deserves my elaboration.

Que Sera Sera

I find myself choosing activities based on their time-wasting capabilities. For instance; as I laid down in my bed yesterday "planning" to study for my finals, I took the opportunity to chance a nap. Not soon into my slumber did I receive a few phone calls requesting my attendance at a comedy club. My friends were no sooner at my dorm, giving me ten minutes to clean up and be ready to go. The show was amazing; Saints and Sinners was the groups formal name, and they are to be leaving for Iraq soon to entertain the troops. One of the comedians, Patrick, had a joke that he could not wait to share in Iraq. It had something to do with his amazing talent of pretending to be gay. He believes that it will come in handy by helping him avoid the draft. I can't exactly convey the joke as well as he did, obviously, but that was basically how it went. As for today, I had stayed the night at my friend's dorm and had awoken to the fact that I had missed work (I thought my shift was from 6:00pm -12:00pm...apparently it was actually 6:00am-noon...an honest mistake really) but this awakened me to other opportunities so that I was then able to go and see Wolverine. Not a terrible movie, but not a great one either. I don't think Hugh Jackman was the right fit acting wise, and it just seemed so very rushed. And after the movie I planned on a shower and some study time. Instead, I showered and watched a movie. A rather good one I daresay. It was a french romantic comedy; "Love Me If You Dare." I absolutely loved it.

The two characters in the movie meet when they are very young and devise a game based on a merry-go-round toy. Whoever is in posession of the toy is the one who dares the other at that time. They pass and back and forth. The dares get them in trouble...alot. And as they get over, become more perverse. They loved each other from the start and do end up together in the end. The music was great too, but what really caught me is the language. I love French, and would really like to learn it someday. They kept singing the song from La Vie En Rose, so afterwards I tried to watch that as well, but decided against it as it was a bad online copy and there were no English subtitles.

As for hanging out with my friends over the weekend, there is one thing that must be understood. No conversation between us ever goes unnoticed, or unaccomplished. They are amazing, and I would like to record them sometime and place them somewhere for others' enjoyment, but alas, it would never work. It would be like "That 70's Show" when the group of friends decides to record one of their conversations from within the smoking circle. They play it back later, and it is no where near as hilarious as it was during the smoking circle. In fact, it hardly makes sense to them. I'll probably end up attempting this sometime in the future, regardless of the aforementioned forebodings.

Random Thoughts of Reminisce

It's been a while since I've blogged so here goes. Just trying to get through these last couple of weeks before my semester ends alive. I'm worried about two classes, but I'm doing well in the other two. My best friend since like 1st grade came to State last night and I drove back to her college, Olivet, this morning to stay the night tonight and go to her bf's frat formal, Sigma Kappa Alpha. Should be fun. Not too much else to say really. I've been thinking alot about how involved I was in school during high school and how that has faded since I've gone to MSU. Like, I did basketball, volleyball, swimming, track, cheerleading, was in band, choir, drama club, student council, and another club that I've forgotten the name of. Now all I do is work and go to classes. Next year I'm planning on swimming and doing intramural soccer while working less though so that should make me feel better, I hope. Til then, I'll just sit here and reminisce over my swimming meets, track meets, and the many many freaking concerts I was in. Man, I seriously miss it all. Ugh.

Catching Up on My Boring Life

So I haven't written in here in forever which means I have alot of catching up to do on my life. For starters, I'm stressed out! Very, very stressed out. I have a website that I've been working on for weeks for my computer class, and that's going well. However, I just offered to create a website for my writing class for my Walkabout project. This project basically entails us walking about and collecting data such as; images, videos, interviews, sounds, etc. to incorporate how literacy, technology, and the community coincide. I have a fairly good idea of how I want this to look, and how I would like to go about putting it all together, but I'm stressed because I'm not that familiar with programs like Nvu, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver. Not only that, but my group hasn't always been the most reliable in the past so why would they start being accountable for me now? Not only that, but I have pretty much given up on my Calculus class, and my War and Revolution class. They are impossible! I can't even stand going to those classes anymore, nonetheless putting in any sort of real, affable effort into it. I'm just really tired of school at this point. Only one more month left, it'd best fly by.

This weekend on the other hand was spectacular, but it flew by, which was not my intent. Friday I worked from 12-5 and then went out to dinner with my Aunt Tammy and two of her work colleagues; Anna, and Bethany. Anna's from Sweden, and will be leaving for home this summer. My aunt just found out while we were at dinner, and it was rather depressing really. That, and we talked about my sister leaving for Iraq in less than 1 week. Really a depressing conversation for dinner, don't you agree? After dinner we went and saw the Lion King Broadway Musical, which was fantastic! I absolutely loved it. I really wish I had done more with theater, and possibly made it my major, but I'm really camera shy when it comes to acting, and actors have sort of a spunk to their personality that I'm missing. So, I doubt that would have happened regardless.

After the musical, I had a girl's night with my friend Sarah. Very short really. We went and got late night food, I can't remember where it was, and then proceeded to chat about boys a little bit before watching one of my favorite movies, Prozac Nation. We didn't watch it for very long before Sarah passed out and so I followed suit.

Saturday morning we woke up somewhat early so that we could leave for Ann Arbor. We met up with our friend John, and then picked up Bobby, Sarah's boyfriend. Sarah had made a mix for the trip, and it was awesome. Once there we got lunch, and then proceeded to chill on the grass to live music. It was Hash Bash, and I can't wait to go again next year. Once back at State, we went to Bobby's Frat, Triangle to watch the game, and party.

On Sunday I didn't do much for the day besides study. I meant to go and get another tattoo but the guy that I wanted to do my tattoo was booked solid all day, so I studied. That night was game night with some friends and then we went and saw Slumdog Millionair. It is a great movie, and I absolutely loved the cinematography and the music.

Prior to my busy weekend I had spring break where I went up north for five days in a cabin with some friends to get completely drunk of my irish ass. It was alot of fun and at one point we went and took a walk through the woods for hours, just meshing with the forest; I loved it!

Once back from up north I went down to Tennessee to visit my sister, where all hell broke loose. I don't want to get into much detail, but I made a mistake, to say the least.

After getting back into Michigan, my family and I left for Washington D.C. We spent a day walking around Arlington Cemetary taking pictures, and remembering the past. We saw the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, almost all of the Smithsonians, the Library of Congress, and just about anything else you can think of, we saw it. My sister and I also spent a crazy night on the town. We met a guy from New York and got to hang out with him for the night. =]

As for now, I had two exams yesterday and now must leave to start my day. I have classes all morning, a nap in the afternoon, and work in the evening. I have to start that website today or tommorow and hopefully get a thumbnail sketch of what I want to do with it. And maybe I'll read for a bit as well.

Last Blog For Vday

I hate Valentines Day...but even so, my friends at State have made it 20x better than it's ever been...even when I wasn't single. We celebrated by partying at my friend's frat...it was actually his party and it was half Vday celebration, half Mardi Gras celebration. It was really fun. And I got to wear my cute star, halter top. Even when I was in a relationship around this time of the year, this holiday as still always managed to suck. I don't understand how it happens, but this has always been a bad time of the year for me. Oh well, this time this holiday didn't actually suck. And since it's pretty much out of the way now I won't have to see people being all into each other anymore...which is awesome. Now I can continue on with my day, which means studying until work, work, then working out, then continuing studying until I fall asleep. Not really that bad of a day though, all things considered.

In Other News...

I'm working on receiving a promotion right now at the cafeteria which would mean a pay raise plus more responsibility. I'm rather excited actually, and I basically already have the position..I just have to complete some more training and take a test. The only remnant of my promotion that will show will be a nice shiny new name tag. Yay! But, that's ok. My hours will probably change, and people will be asking me more questions on how to do things, more so than they already do. And there are new people, like everyday. It's annoying because they don't know what to do and when they're in the middle of doing something, they don't really know what they are doing even then. So I have to show people how to do things...like, all the time. Oh well, I've become an expert at cleaning kettles, fryers, and grills now. =] It's really preparing me for life after college...not. I'm still excited though.

A Tangent on World History

So there's this class, ISS 325 War and Revolution...and it is killing me, not so softly. We have to read The New York Times, which is enjoyable, but, there are certain articles that will be on the tests that we have to know about..which is only slightly ridiculous. There are also two books which we have to read along with a 400 pg. course packet. All of which are on the tests. Oh, and did I forget that we have to know certain things which he discusses in class lectures, also for the tests. And it truly baffles me because I can follow his lectures which we're in class but still do poorly on his tests. Grrr...I hate this class. Never take it...in fact, avoid with every fiber of your being. My professors from New York too and he tends to say ummm... alot. We're talking after every other phrase here. It puts me to sleep. As a remedy, I bring a monster to class every class period, just as a safety precaution. History is really quite interesting but I believe my professor gets an A in turning it into boring useless, overwhelming crap. I even tried to get help after a class period, on three separate occasions, after he already told me he could meet me after class sometime, and yet, he has still been unable to meet with me. Fantastic, right?
